1. Get a Comfortable, Balanced Grip

Place your ring finger in the upper loop and your thumb in the lower loop. Use the finger rest for better control. Hold each shear in a relaxed, stable hand position for smoother movement.

2. Start with the Thinner for Volume Control

Use the thinning shears to reduce bulk and manage thick areas of the coat. Comb the section first, then make short, repeated cuts with half blade closures. Ideal zones include the neck, chest, under the ears, and hind legs.

3. Follow the Coat’s Natural Shape

Let the curve of the blade follow the dog’s body—especially in rounded or contoured areas like hips, shoulders, and thighs. This keeps the results soft and even.

4. Switch to the Blender for Finishing

Use the blending shears after shaping to soften lines and create smooth transitions. Work in small sections and make gentle snips along the edges of trimmed areas to blend different coat lengths seamlessly.

5. Use a Comb to Check Progress

Comb between cuts to lift the coat and assess evenness. This helps you blend without overworking one spot and keeps texture natural.

6. Work With the Growth Direction

Always trim following the direction of the hair growth. This allows the blades to glide through more smoothly and gives better control over texture.

Maintenance Guide

1. Wipe After Every Use

Use a microfiber cloth to clean both blades, including between the thinning or blending teeth. Keep them free from hair and residue.

2. Oil the Pivot Weekly

Apply one drop of grooming scissor oil at the pivot screw. Open and close the shears a few times to spread the oil evenly.

3. Store in a Padded Case

Keep both shears in a dedicated protective case. This maintains sharpness and prevents any damage to the blade tips or golden finish.

4. Dry Immediately If Moisture Appears

If the scissors get wet during cleaning or grooming, dry them completely with a soft cloth.

Works Well With Wiggly Dogs

I started using these curved scissors because my older dog is wiggly and hates to be groomed - like bits the shaver hates. Like anything that resembles grooming is his mortal enemy. These help me keep him from getting his skin nicked or hurt and I can angle them away from him while still getting the bangs he insists on having out of his eyes. I've also found that they help when cleaning up the fur in his paw pads, well when I can keep his foot still long enough to trim them out. I swear that do would rather look like a mop - all 12 lbs of him. Anyhow, these are some of the best dog wrangling scissors I've used and would highly recommend them for quick cleanups, matt trimming, and any other dog grooming needs you may have.
